Sintija employs powerful imagery that plays on themes of fantasy and the obscure. Often blunt and raw, her work invokes the potential for strength and vulnerability that lies within our bodies.
BIOGRAPHY
Sintija Žīgure is a Latvian born artist, performer and choreographer who splits her time between Latvia and Canada. After graduating dance and choreography (2015) in her home country, Sintija moved to Vancouver, BC to pursue her professional dance career. She was lucky enough to train at LAMONDANCE under the artistic director Davi Rodrigues. Following that she trained at Modus Operandi Contemporary Dance Program under the artistic direction of Tiffany Tregarthen and David Raymond. Throughout her career, Sintija has had the pleasure of performing works by choreographers from Canada, UK, Finland, Germany, Austria, Israel and Latvia. Her work outside of performing includes the founding of Embody.Riga, a contemporary dance platform that offers Latvian dancers exposure to international training. She is also a board member with the Choreographers Association of Latvia which has given her the opportunity to further develop the contemporary dance community in Riga.
